As part of the QShala Sunday Family Quizzes, we collaborate with other organizations to nudge families to reflect on their daily activities and their impact on the world.
In the words of Bruce Lee “Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.” In the first week of August, we joined hands with Saahas, a Bengaluru based non-profit organization working in the field of waste management. Since 2001, they have been helping build communities across rural and urban India. We highlighted the necessity of segregation at source, reducing, reusing and recycling waste, with emphasis on the disposal of e-waste. We encouraged the families to join the E-waste scavenger hunt and attain freedom from the faulty, obsolete, unused electronics buried in their drawers. The message was driven through interesting formats of questions and gamification courtesy Kahoot. We discussed how simple nudges like questions can help prevent the littering of cigarette butts across London.
We also re-iterated that complex problems can be solved through simple innovations and that you don’t have to be a grown up to come with solutions.
By bringing in references to art exhibits, movies, science and technology, current affairs, we made waste segregation thought provoking, interesting and relevant.
We ensured that we didn’t ignore the fundamentals such as knowing what classifies as dry waste, wet waste, hazardous domestic waste, e-waste and the measures to be taken while disposing each of these.
